Black + White Marble

dress- Loft
blazer- random shop in BR
shoes- Liz Claiborne

Shop this post

A month ago, I wore this for my school's end of the year awards program... which tells you how behind I am on blog posts! I bought this dress a couple of years ago from Loft and, I have to confess, it is one of the most underused items in my closet. It fits like a glove, keeps its shape all day, and is appropriate for any occasion. Officially kicking myself for not having worn it out by now! All I needed to make it classroom-approved was to add a blazer on top. This dress is sleeveless, so covering my shoulders was wise for the ceremony. I love the marbled print! It is busy without being too "in your face." I am usually not a fan of bold prints, so this is about as extreme as I get.

Flower Power

dress- vintage [similar]
shoes- Franco Sarto [similar] [splurge]

It doesn't matter how much leather or tomboy pieces I curate for my wardrobe, I will always be drawn to a good old fashioned vintage frock. Cream lace, sheer sleeves, and a ladylike shape will forever be my alter ego.

Or maybe it is not so much my alter ego, but simply an additional element of me. Some people are meant to have one "style." I don't think that is my vibe. I prefer the freedom to wear whatever I want, no matter if it seemingly does not fit my personality.

Five Years

Five years.

I have been blogging for five years.

I do not think that I have ever done the same thing for five years. This blog may be my longest relationship to date, ha!

How have I grown since my first post?
How has the blogging game changed since my first post?

When I think back to the first time I hit the "Publish" button, I remember the fear and excitement in that simple action. I was scared to death that I would regret putting myself out there. Do I regret it? Not one bit. What began as an after school hobby, and still is... but now I get paid to go to school ;), became my favorite creative outlet. It has landed me jobs and given me the opportunity to meet incredible people, some of whom have become my in-real-life friends. Truly, I would be lost without those people!

Looking back on the waves of life I have floated (or drowned...) in, blogging has been that central thing that I could come home to and know that I loved. It was a visual evidence of me. I love waking up and getting dressed each morning. It is a chance to show the world who I am that day. This concept of a style blog makes the crazy outfits I put together worth it, because I would not just be showing my looks to the cashier at the grocery store.

I love what this blog has been. A haven. An escape. At times, a frustration. But, most of all, it has been a virtual memory book that I can flip through and see my growth. I need that. There does come a time for the parameters of growth to change, however. Maybe I have finally found my own voice to express myself, not only a visual voice. Maybe I have more to say than just talking about what I have worn. If it happens that I do, I hope you stick around with me as I figure it out.

Modern Gypsy

tank- American Eagle [same]
skirt- [similar] [similar
sandals- Birkenstock [same]
belt- thrifted

Do you ever get an outfit idea late at night and you think to yourself, "that's nuts," but you get out of bed and try it out? And then you love it? That is this outfit. When I got into the blogging game, everyone was belting everything. Every. Single. Thing. (Remember the Belt Trifecta of 2011? #memories

Now, I use a couple of belts on rotation, but not as often as I used to. This hip-hugging chain belt vibe is very gypsy to me. Matchstick skirts are not my taste, but I like how it looks with a body con skirt and a basic color scheme. Mixing genres in your outfits is what style is all about. Experimenting with new ideas and playing dress-up.

PS: Your eyes are not fooling you... that is lavender in my hair!
