You know that moment when you pick out a dress thinking you'll wear it a few times and then probably be tired of it, but you get it anyway? That is this dress. When I bought it, I knew I loved it, but I never thought it would become a major repeat outfit element. Every time I wear it out I get so many compliments on it. People of all ages love it, which tells me that it is way cooler than I could have imagined!
You know, blogging is strange. You meet so many people online and never imagine that you would be real-life friends with them. I wore this outfit to meet Olivia and her boyfriend in New Orleans a few weeks ago! After an online friendship for months, it was fun to spend time together face to face. It was steaming hot, so my outfit was limited to my "no touch" dresses and comfortable sandals. Truth be told, Birks were not be my first choice with this dress, but when walking is involved, the law is comfort over cute.
After meeting for beignets at Café du Monde in the French Quarter, my friend Marcela and I headed to the Garden District to catch a showing of the Yves Saint Laurent film for the French Film Festival. A big thank you to Andi & the New Orleans Film Society for a great afternoon out of the heat!
I found these cargoes recently at TJ Maxx and immediately loved them! They are not my usual style, but sometimes you have to step out of your comfort zone and go for what you like just because you like it. Even when it surprises you! I posted a picture on Instagram wearing them a bit differently than here, but I liked it just the same. These pants remind me of something one of my favorite TV characters, Ziva David from NCIS, would wear. I have a feeling they will be getting a lot of wear in the coming months!
Last week, 225 Magazine celebrated the release of the September Fashion issue in mad style. The theme was Mad Men and, not surprising, Tate & Sarah Tullier were the best dressed in my eyes. A gold skinny tie & the perfect LBD? Yes. See party photos here & laugh at my face...
For the Mad Men theme, I decided to go with a Betty & Megan Draper blend. If you saw my Instagram post, you know that I had quite the debacle! I knew I wanted to stay in the Draper family, but which one fit me best that day was a difficult decision. As Kiernan Shipka is my 14-year-old style icon, my immediate draw was to her character, Sally. But looking like a child isn't what I wanted to do while trying to get into a party that is 21+. The Don was my next choice because, well, I just wanted to wear a velvet tuxedo jacket and call it a day. Though, seriously, velvet in hurricane season is just laughable.
In the end, I asked myself what Betty Draper would have worn had she *spoiler alert* still been married to Don during the last few seasons when he was married to Megan. If you don't know what I am talking about, watch the show! A flower child California version of Betty. Take a late 1960s print Megan would love, but in a ladylike shape Betty would prefer. Add classic jewelry, tasteful shoes, a chic updo, and a funky handbag. Who is your favorite Mad [wo]Man?
