Cool Enough

Breakdown:
tank- thrifted
sneakers- Converse
jewelry- thrifted or market in Mexico

My outfit mood has always been different each day. I never know which person I will be that day until I look in my closet. I evaluate my mood and what I will be doing that day and go from there. Some days my mood is girly, others it is boyish. Rarely am I more of a "street style" case, though. This Nike tank makes my brain go into a weird thing where I wish I 1) knew how to Double Dutch and 2) actually cool enough to wear a pair of Air Jordans.

But I'm not, so we can pretend.

In the Wild

dress- c/o eShakti
jacket- American Eagle [similar]
boots- DV Dolce Vita via TJ Maxx [similar]
necklace- vintage

I have said time and time again that I am not usually one for prints, so when I find one I love, I get obsessed. As I was pouring over the new eShakti collection online, I stumbled upon this sweet little number and obviously fell head over heels for the print! And even better? It's black & white, making it 3x more versatile in my closet than a bright color. From far away the print looks like houndstooth and plays tricks on the eyes.

But giraffes!!! It now lives right next to my horse print dress and I am pretty sure they will call on the rest of the herd and Rafiki will come hopping out of my closet any minute now.

eShakti has a goal of delivering the truest fit possible, allowing you to purchase regular sizes as well as customize any garment to your specific measurements. They also let you add sleeves, pockets, length, etc. if you want! I stayed with the original design of this dress, knowing that the regular length would be perfect on me and sleeveless would be great for layering in the fall and winter months. When I placed my order, however, I was worried about the fit of the bodice, as I usually have trouble with the fit of that area so I prefer to try-on. As you can see, though, it fits perfectly and I have no complaints at all. I was pleasantly surprised and like that I can now feel comfortable ordering fitted pieces from the site and know they will fit. That reassurance means everything to a customer, no? Read on about the eShakti story here.

Disco Ready

Breakdown:
romper- Cynthia Vincent (old)
shoes- Nine West

I wore this a few weeks ago for the InRegister Fashion's Night Out party and am just getting around to posting it! Because the event was outside, I wanted to make sure I would be cool in the crazy Louisiana heat but still look good. I'm not sure if you have ever tried to accomplish that goal, but it's not easy. Though I have lived here my entire life I still struggle with it. Wearing a romper required very little thought when I got dressed. There is no deciding if the blouse balances with a skirt or pants or if a dress needs a belt or not. No fuss, few frills, still looks good.

And goodness if I wasn't so shy I would have discoed all over the place in these shoes! They're amazing, right?!

Today is the last day to enter the Chloe + Isabel Giveaway so head over & enter for a beautiful pair of earrings!

Candied

Not wearing white after Labor Day is still a rule that people follow, but not me. I prefer wearing my whites year round. Besides... how is a girl supposed to wear white jeans when it is 100+ degrees outside? But with respect to those who are more adherent to the rules, I am getting my "summer colors" out of the way before our seasons change. This necklace from Oui We Girl reminds me of those candy necklaces I got in goodie bags at birthday parties! The colors combined with the clear beads make it so luscious. It is so luscious, in fact, that I found myself tempted to bite the beads in hopes that they would turn to sugar.

I refrained.

Keep

Breakdown:
dress- unknown
sandals- Nine West [similar]
jewelry- c/o Chloe + Isabel

We all have those pieces in our wardrobe that we hold onto year after year and survive every closet clean-out each season. This dress is one of mine. I have worn it so much in the last few years and it is my go-to when I am looking for something to throw on and not worry about. It requires little accessories, but I can also pile on the jewelry like crazy and it will still look great! It is easy to put it in the "keep" pile every year!

Speaking of piling on jewelry, aren't these pieces from Chloe + Isabel gorgeous? I wore the larger bracelet last week and got so many compliments on it! The intricate design of all of the pieces is something difficult to find in its price range. The color combination on the Sunset on the Seine bracelet and ring go with so many things in my closet and I love the mix of shapes and textures! I rarely find modern jewelry that catches my eye, but I almost have to wipe up the drool on my keyboard each time I look at the site.

Check out more of the C+I pieces and stay tuned for a fun giveaway tomorrow!

Tee + Leather

Breakdown:
tee- BCBGeneration [similar]
shoes- Bandolino [similar]
jewelry- vintage

Even though the typical September heat and afternoon showers weather is in high tide, I am slowly getting excited about wearing my cold weather pieces! To mix up my seasons, I was inspired by this pin to keep a neutral color scheme. I do not get to wear heels during the week so I tend to wear them on the weekends to actually get use out of them! Most people initially think that leather is uncomfortable to wear, but it is actually the opposite. Yes, it does not stretch like a good pair of yoga pants, but it is soft and makes you feel like you can take on the world.

I've yet to find a pair of yoga pants that make me feel that way, so there ya go.

Scouted

Breakdown:
blouse & socks- Target
shorts- Gap [similar]  [want these]
boots- Hunter
rings- gifted, vintage
bracelets- vintage

The day I wore this outfit (one day last week... can't recall exactly) the weather forecast was a downpour starting at 11am lasting the entire afternoon. It just so happened that it did not rain until 5pm on my way home. I felt so prepared to trudge in the rain back to my car, complete with two (yes, two) ponchos in my bag and my lovely Hunter wellies. Though they were of no use to me, I am still glad I finally got pictures for this here blog! When I purchased them last April specifically to wear to JazzFest I thought I would get to show them here immediately but never thought about not being able to take outfit shots in the rain. Logic... lost on me.

I have been looking for a pair of cool rain boots for years and could never commit to the price tag of the original Hunters. To be frank, I wasn't sure I even wanted tall boots. They felt conventional and I could never decide on a color. The minute I saw these babies on sale, though, my credit card leapt into my hand and a box was propped on my doorstep a few days later. I like the style of the Chelsea boots and they are not the "conventional" rain boot. I have yet to see anyone else around here wear this style and that may be why I like them so much. In the cooler months I will wear them with leggings and skinnies but for now I will stretch out my frilly dresses, going for a girly/tough juxtaposed look.

This outfit was really inspired by this look from the latest J. Crew campaign. Because of my small frame, I usually don't dress so loosely. I try to have one loose and another slimmer piece for balance. Halfway through the day my shorts were almost falling off from stretching which led to me liking the proportions of the outfit more as the day went on. Bigger, baggier, but still cool.

My favorite aspect of this look, though, is that I look African safari-ready, Scout's Honor.

Ladylike Tuxedo

Breakdown:
dress- vintage, LSU Your Friend's Closet Sale a few years ago
clutch & jewelry- vintage
pumps- Antonio Melani (old)

Rarely do I have an occasion to sport a cocktail dress, but when I do I try to be the most over dressed person in the room. The Heritage Ranch Gala is one of my favorite events of the year and I love seeing so many fellow Baton Rougeans support my friend, Vicki, and the organization that was put on her heart before she knew letters happened in math, too. The event gets larger every year, which is such an encouragement! This year, the silent auction table was full of temptation and the food was so so so good. The double chocolate cake bites from Nothing Bundt Cakes were other worldy. Like a brownie, but cake, but then some sort of great frosting (and I don't like frosting) came together in a single bite and then you wished there were two. *sigh*

I rescued this dress from the rubble of the LSU Closet Sale a few years ago, had it altered immediately, and never wore it. It has been sitting in my closet, likely feeling rejected after being passed over in favor of new dresses. But it's like The Byrds said, "And a time to every purpose, under Heaven." I prefer to think that my ladylike tuxedo has been brewing on the hanger and preparing for its debut. Getting better with age, patiently awaiting its moment of reveal, and becoming ready for its moment.

My clothes are nice like that, so patient.

Boy, Girl // Girl, Boy

Breakdown:
blouse- self-made
jeans- Levi's mens
wallet- Target
sandals- TJ Maxx
necklace- thrifted
frizzy hair- c/o August in Louisiana

Boyfriend jeans and tomboy style has been on trend for a few years now. I can't quite place it, but each time I go with a tomboy vibe, I feel way hotter than when I wear a sexy dress. Maybe it is because I feel scandalous borrowing from the boys. Whatever it is, I like it

Making a boyish outfit look girly takes a bit more thought than usual. Wear a pretty necklace, step into some heels, and most of all, have fun with it. If you take it too seriously, you run the risk of looking boxy instead of letting your curves slightly alter your clothes.

Look like a girl, but play with the boys.

PS: If you can name the movie from which my post title hails, I will love you forever.
