BBQ and champagne would not usually go hand-in-hand in many places around the world, but here in south LA, they go together like biscuits and chocolate gravy. Next Sunday, October 20, the New Orleans Jazz Orchestra is holding a fundraiser, the Bubble Q, on behalf of the New Orleans Jazz Institute. The afternoon bubbles & BBQ soiree is the perfect time to mix casual and glam pieces in your closet!

We ladies always want an excuse to don a fun party dress, but a daytime event may not be the best choice for an Oscar-worthy gown. I wanted to stay flirty, but still casual enough for day. A cocktail dress is made afternoon (and fall temperature) appropriate by wearing a gold sweater over it. The sweater covers up the dress’s open back and falls close to the skirt’s ruffle, revealing the best back-porch dancing dress there ever was. I chose to go with flats because 1) they have been all over the runways (designers: thank you!!!) and 2) they are less formal than strappy heels. I would not recommend just any flats, however. Loafers tell the crowd you are quirky and glitter loafers… well they just scream sass, right?

Head on over here to purchase your tickets for the Bubble Q! It’s bound to be a good time with food, drink, tunes, & excellent company.

PS: Enter the coupon code “education” for $10 off the ticket price!
