I have not been able to figure out what it is that attracts me to everything in a mustard shade, as I hate mustard, but so many pieces in this color end up in my closet! It is as if I am a cat lady, but with mustard clothes. To incorporate it into the rest of my wardrobe, I treat it as a neutral. It is car enough from yellow yet close enough to caramel to pass for brown. Using a classic denim shade is an easy combination that works year round. This lighter shade goes with more neutral colors like greys, oatmeals, and blues, making it more versatile and a better addition to your closet. Versatility is always something you want to think about when you are shopping.
A common rule is: If you can think of 3 ways to wear it, it is worth it!
I bought this hat a year ago and it was hidden, hidden in the sale section at Gap! Literally buried behind tons of stuff... no clue how I found it. However, I am so glad I did! In terms of cost-per-wear, Gap is paying me to wear it at this point-- I only wish this were true.
Now for this necklace... I would not usually have worn brights with a neutral outfit, but I tossed this blouse next to the jewels and loved loved loved how the pink complimented the mustard! To say that I am glad I did not go with my normal brass or gold accessories is an understatement. The contrast is surprisingly beautiful and a pairing I will make a point to try again soon. Thank you, random tosses in outfit planning frustration!
