Polka + Pink

Breakdown: sweater & pants- Gap, loafers- Dolce Vita via TJ Maxx

I saw these pants. I fell in love with these pants. I wore these pants. I wore these pants with a sweater in my second least favorite color [numero uno being orange] and sparkly loafers.

This outfit has a lot more going on than I normally wear, even though it's just a pair of skinny pants and a sweater. However, the punchy color of the sweater in combination with the polka dot pants added to the glitter loafers make for a fun, but still professional, outfit.

Guy Meets Gal

Breakdown: oxford + blazer (boys' Dior)- thrifted, skirt- remade from a thrifted dress,
sweatshirt- Gap, shoes- Dillard's, glasses- Noelie Harmon

The weather has been trying lately as the South is always confused about the definition of fall. One day it's 85 at 2 p.m. and 53 by dinner time. As usual, I am hesitant to let go of my collection of shorts and dresses. I have my reasons, one of which is that I like my legs. Sue me.

Inspired by this pin, this outfit was a perfect marriage of still exposing my [tan-losing] legs and staying warm. In looking through old outfit posts, my boy-meets-girl kick is still going strong and I don't see it dying down any time soon. If you like to borrow from the boys, however, make sure you bring a little girly sass into the outfit. Without it, the look could be boxy or awkward. With it, it looks like you threw on a cute dress and stole a few things from your Italian boyfriend's closet.

Hey, a girl can dream!

Ric-Rac & Hi-Tops

Breakdown: 1950s eyelet dress- Time Warp, shoes- Converse

Today's outfit is brought to you by this post from Caroline's Mode of Natasha Gilbert. I loved loved loved the juxtaposition of a frilly white dress with pink hi-tops! The photo was posted yesterday and I knew I had to try it out immediately! Luckily, I had all of the element in my closet. I even have shades like that, but I forgot to grab them on my way out the door.

Normally, I would have just put on nude flats with this dress, but the pop of color and odd shoe combination make the look less serious or prim & proper. I always want to look put together, but with a hint of funk!

Khakis: Good or Bad?

Breakdown: tee + chinos- Gap, flats- Nine West, belt- J. Crew Outlet

Fact: My day job as a teacher should mean that khakis are a staple in my wardrobe.

Fact #2: I wore khakis every school day for 6 years... so, naturally, khakis are the enemy.

Fact #3: I push these khakis into the back of my closet to avoid looking like a "typical" teacher. See also: polos. However, as soon as I saw this pin a few months ago, I knew I had to let these babies see the light of day! Sure, I had a denim jacket on this morning, but the 85 degree afternoon had it resting on my chair by 10 a.m.

And to that I say... Welcome back, khaki pants.

Peplums and Polka Dots

Breakdown: top- Buffalo Exchange, skirt- Time Warp,
shoes- Liz Claiborne, shades- Kenzie

Since the peplum trend popped back up a while back, I have been debating my status of like or dislike. At first, I thought, "Well... how do I wear it?" Once I found this cute polka dot top at Buffalo Exchange this week, I was sold!

Wear it with a skirt, wear it with pants! Hey, even wear it with shorts! I just hope no one notices me wearing it multiple days in a row.

Izavel NOLAFW SS'13

I am so sorry for the lack of photos of the Izavel show, but my camera battery was dying... or maybe I just don't know how to use my camera. Either is a strong possibility. The line was an easy mix of flow + structure, the perfect work wear for a good balance of comfort and "I'm a pro" 'tude.

NOLAFW Libellule SS'13

Details from the Libellule show at NOLAFW Tuesday night. My personal favorite? The little red wiggle dress with the smartly-placed bow in the back. Sassy!

The Loot

A 1930s dressing gown. (Anyone know how I can clean/dye it?)

M. Bishop, I have your WWII US Navy overcoat, but you can't have it back.

Left: silk organza apron/over skirt. Right: vintage skirt.

Perfect swing sweater + real leopard fur detachable collar. (I practically stole this...)

The rest of my items? Oh, they're taking a bubble bath.
We will leave them alone to soak in peace.

Your Friend's Closet Sale: A Preview

Tomorrow is the day... the Your Friend's Closet sale is tomorrow morning! Thursday, Heidi and I headed down to the old 4-H Mini Farm at LSU to get a preview of the merch the Textile Museum was putting out. The vintage section was my favorite, of course, and I already have my heart set on an old U.S. Navy uniform top. I'm not sure how kosher that is, seeing as I found it while wearing a U.S. Army shirt from 1981, but who cares! I will be sure to let you in on my finds!

Fringin'

Breakdown: jacket- American Eagle Outlet, tank & short- TJ Maxx,
shoes- Dillard's, necklace- Saint Claude NOLA

My school's district has a 3-day weekend for fair holiday, so I get to catch up on running errands and a little shopping! Sure, I could clean my house or prepare for next week, but I think I will take a break and live a little. I may even wear a fringe top and do a little dance... oh wait, I did that already.
