Tees: Professional?

Breakdown: tank- Urban Outfitters (old), skirt- TJ Maxx,
sandals- Nine West, purse- Fossil old)

Since starting my big girl job and having to dress professionally every day, I have come to realize something: my version of a "work top" needs to change. I wear tees with everything. Tees are fine. I always wear them with a nice skirt or dressier pants, but they don't have to same "I'm a pro" effect.

Does anyone have suggestions for places to shop for good work blouses that can be mix & matched? I'm helpless.

Best Of 225

Every year, 225 Magazine publishes its "Best Of" edition, full of the best of Baton Rouge! From dining and shopping to massages and pet care, the people of 225 vote for their favorites in BR!

Paris Parker, an Aveda salon, won Best Salon! Lucky me, because I get my hair done there (not that they'd claim me... seeing as my hair is always a complete mess). Paris Parker is having a fun night Thursday, October 4 to celebrate their "Best of" award.

I'll be there gettin' my hur did and maybe, just maybe, someone will be able to teach me how to do winged eyeliner so I can be cool.

Hope to see you there!

A Cowboy Safari

Breakdown: shirt- thrifted Wrangler, skirt- thrifted Banana Republic Safari gear, boots- Dolce Vita via TJ Maxx

In theory, this outfit was amazing. More specifically, in theory, I looked better in this outfit. After wearing it all day, I wish I'd starched the skirt when ironing it and it is definitely going in my "to be hemmed" pile. A girl's gotta show a little more knee.

Tell me... do you ever wear an outfit all day and find the things you wish you had changed?

IZAVEL Trunk Show: Vernon New Orleans

Last fall, during NOLAFW, I attended the Varela + Brooks show (post found here). I am SO excited that IZAVEL, designer Isabel Varela's indie line, will be back for NOLAFW this October!

If you're in the New Orleans area on September 27, Isabel will be hosting a trunk show for the fall collection of IZAVEL at Vernon in New Orleans. The reception is from 4:30- 7:30.

Check out the IZAVEL blog for past collections!

PS: Check out my fellow BR blogger friend Jennifer in her IZAVEL outfits! The leather vest will make you drool.

Ode to the LBD

Breakdown: dress- Target (old), heels- Liz Claiborne (old)

Oh, Little Black Dress,
You trouble me so.
You hang in my closet,
Without giving me a place to go.

You never wrinkle,
And you never need a necklace.
Every time I walk down the street,
Your cuteness makes the other gals jealous.

Fear not, little one,
You have lived in my closet for years.
My love for you
Will never leave your ears.

My life is easy
Only with you around.
My Travolta strut lives on
Never to make me frown.

This is my ode
To you my friend.
My heart is so full
Because you will never end up a trend.

Fallbacks

Breakdown: dress- Forever 21, jacket- American Eagle outlet, scarf- Gap, boots- DV via TJ Maxx, belt & jewelry- thrifted, shades- vintage

Judging from my jacket and scarf, you may have guessed that we had another cool snap starting this morning! It feels so nice to have a breeze for morning duty!

It may be the 90s girl in me, but I love a cool calico & army tough getup. I've worn this dress at least a dozen times in the year I have had it and always fall back on the neutral shoes and army green. Maybe next time I'll switch it up and wear... an oatmeal sweater? Is that enough change to count? Whatever, I'm the boss. We'll go with yes.

PS: Yes, my hair was that big today... it seems to get larger as the day goes on. My mane has a mind of its own.

A weird hair day [read: month] constitutes a pretty dress. Logical, right?

Sassy

Breakdown: dress- Old Navy (I know, right?), belt- vintage, flats- Jessica Simpson

Every girl needs a sassy leopard print dress. And every gal needs to girl it up with a bow belt. It's simple mathematics, y'all.

Horse Trot

Breakdown: dress- Vivienne Vivienne Tam via Stein Mart, booties- DV Dolce Vita via Marshalls, necklace- Saint Claude NOLA, smiling face c/o a 64 degree morning

When you see a horse print shift dress, buy it. It's cooler than you can even imagine.

PS: pigeon toes in the 1st picture... does that mean I'm a real blogger now?

Leopard & Lennon

Breakdown: tank- Forever21, pants & shades- Target, loafers- TJ Maxx

The perfect combo for a quick dinner & movie with friends? Exhibit A. Pants that don't feel like pants, a tank that doesn't feel like a tank, and shades that make me look cooler than I really am.

That's a lie. I'm way cool.

No Dress Code

Breakdown: tee- Gap, skirt- 90s dress remade, boots- DV Dolce Vita via Marshalls

Since I have a dress code for work, I usually find myself wanting to wear violation outfits on the weekends. Above the knee skirts, shoulder-bearing tops, etc. These last few days of hurrication have been full of tank tops, short shorts, and even the occasional pair of hot pants. Strangely enough, it feels a little freeing to carefully squat down for fear of showing my cute undies to the employees at Lowe's.
