With Ease

Breakdown: dress- thrifted Gap, cuff- Dillards, shoes- All Saints via TJ Maxx

By this time next week I will be [almost] a college graduate. This Friday is my last day of student teaching and then I have a paper for an English class, but I'm not too worried about that. 5 days left. 5 days. So weird.

Channeling Judy Jetson

Breakdown: dress- Express (old), belt- Target, shoes- Liz Claiborne

Do you have that dress that you buy on an impulse and don't wear for [probably] 5 years? No? Oh, well then I guess you aren't a candidate for Hoarders. That is this dress for me. I have no idea why it never got put in a resale bag, but I guess I just couldn't part with it yet. I plan to do a closet clean-out in the next month or so and it might end up in the toss pile. We will just have to wait and see.

100% Cheap

Breakdown: shirt, scarf, loafers- thrifted, pants- thrifted J. Crew

Whoa, I just realized that my entire outfit was thrifted! Go me! I wore this yesterday for the last day of standardized testing. Last night I headed to One Night with Jesus Culture and boy am I exhausted! I almost fell asleep mid-sentence while teaching this afternoon. Nap time!

Hall Monitor

As Mom says, "Stop looking down! No one wants to see your two-tone hair!"

Breakdown: shirt- Levi's, pants- thrifted J. Crew, loafers- Dolce Vita via TJ Maxx, nappy hair c/o a crazy day

Today schools in LA started LEAP and iLEAP testing. Half of my students have already taken their tests (they take a version for moderate special ed) and the other half are taking their mild sped version in the morning. We have to get all of our April field trips out of the way before the 13th, so we had a field trip yesterday, today, and we also have one tomorrow. I got to go yesterday, but I am a hall monitor for the English hall for the rest of testing. Boooooo! Whatever, I ended up getting a ton of homework done and helped get everyone to lunch since we were off schedule.

And when I say "helped", I mean ran all around the school furiously opening doors and yelling "LUUUUUNCH TIIIIIIIME". 750 kids in 45 minutes. We'll call it Renegade Lunch. Or Blisters on my Feet and Sweat Running Down my Brow. Pick your preference.

PS: Yes, these shoes are that awesome. Glitter + bows + loafers = happiness.

An Easter Polka

Breakdown: dress- TJ Maxx (Lauren by Ralph Lauren-- on the cheap), shoes- TJ Maxx (Ellen Tracy), pin- MawMaw'd, first photo- c/o the Duchess of Cambridge

Happy Easter! I am worn out from an all-day affair full of family, food, fun, and a golf cart on steroids. My feet are sore and so is my belly. Church was full of people dressed like Peeps and then there was me... in black & white. Ha! But polka dots are not seasonal and this dress was just too good to pass up!

Meet Me at Tanger!

I have some exciting news! If you are in the Baton Rouge area, make a trip to the Tanger Outlets in Gonzales for some shopping, giveaways, and fun! I will be there on Monday scouting finalists for the show on Saturday. Come see me from noonish-4ish and let me shop with you!

If you aren't in the Baton Rouge area, find a Tanger Outlet near you for some great events and a chance at a $200 or $500 gift card! Watch and listen for the commercials!

Oh, Happy Day

Breakdown: dress- Time Warp, belt & purse- thrifted, sandals- Dillard's

In my last post, I talked all about how I was stuck on the design aspect of my future home. Well, I am extremely happy to say that I spent most of today figuring it out! Mom and I went to some shops near downtown BR and explored. We took pictures, got inspiration, asked some questions, etc. Bottom line, I found some sweet metal hotdog bun molds that I fully intend to use on the wall above the work bench. Sounds weird, but I promise it's cool! I've also figured out what to do with a corner dead space that made me crazy. PLUS a crazy haul of milkglass at the Salvation Army-- I cleaned them out!

I think it's safe to say that I am pretty much out of my brain rut. And a pair of Dolce Vita glitter loafers for $25 at Marshalls certainly didn't hurt :)

Into the Blank Abyss

About 2 weeks ago I mentioned in a post (which one... I don't remember. And I'm too lazy to go back and look it up) that I am moving in a couple of months. No worries, it's just to the front of my parents' front yard. Specifically, to my dad's workshop/office. It's never been finished off, so it's pretty much a blank slate. If I am being completely honest (this is the Interwebz after all), I do not work well with blank slates. I am much more productive with being given something and then making it my own. But designing a kitchen that barely exists? Creating a living area when it's always been stuffed with old furniture and [bad] lamps from 1984? I don't know how to do that! I have an idea of what I want it to look like... but it's all in my head. This doesn't sit well with my Dad, since he and his main man Charlie will be the one's doing all of the work. I feel a little bit like a child with autism who can't express themselves with words. Not that this example is remotely accurate, but it's how I feel.

So, here is your job. I have a collection of pins that I am using for "Pinspiration." I also have some photos of the blank slate aka "the white noise that keeps me awake at night." Help me come up with some ideas and solutions! Puhleeeeeeeease?

The actual space:

To the left of the main entrance: the window on the left will be add-on bedroom.
Future closet-- to be closed off to the living room which is where the garage door is. Big closet... BIG closet.
The kitchen/dining room/whatever. The floors will stay grey but will be sealed.

Awkward workbench that I'm not sure what to do with. TONS of storage, though! I'm thinking a tin siding design for the wall space with shelves for all of my milk glass pieces.

The living room: taken from the fridge. The heater will be gone :( but it gets really hot and I don't want burns all over my body since I tend to run into stationary objects.

I'm going for a white wash + industrial + vintage + weirdo style. I have some eclectic "crap" and it all somehow goes together, but I need to create a space where they all work together and don't look like a nutcase hoarder lives there. Even though we all know the real story.

My kitchen will be white, but only because my dad would literally birth a cow if I asked for a mint kitchen.

I love a tin & wood combo.

From Adore Vintage: Basically, I want her studio. The floors, the walls, the RADIATOR! And Lord help me with those windows!

Help me come up with some ideas for color schemes and all that jazz! If you have any specific ideas that you want to throw out that might sound stalkerish in a comment, beam me an e-mail at thinktwicestyle@gmail.com
