The Funky Librarian

Breakdown:
tank- American Eagle
skirt, belt, jewelry- thrifted
flats- Antonio Melani
hat- Forever 21

This skirt screams librarian, right?  But not in a boring I-wear-a-navy-pants-suit-to-work kind. It's more of an I-make-the-kids-read-awesome-books-instead-of-the-boring-ones kind. Am I right? Am I right? Should I repeat myself a third time just for effect? I won't.

Breakdown:
tank- Gap
shorts- Time Warp
belt & rings- thrifted
sandals- Antonio Melani via Dillards
purse- thrifted Coach (AHHHH!)

I wore this to the CUT Costume Exhibit at the Louisiana Arts and Science Museum (LASM) today!  We weren't allowed to take pictures (ugh), but can I just tell you how gorgeous everything was!  From the  costumes from Finding Neverland, Jack Sparrow's outfit from the first Pirates, and Mom getting uncomfortably close to inspect whether or not the seams are hand-stiched or machine done.  We were also not allowed to touch, which led to me clasping my hands together and resisting touching the fabrics and inspecting the lace.  IT WAS SO DIFFICULT!  Oh my goodness, you have no idea.  I definitely recommend seeing it if you live near Baton Rouge, though!  The costumes are interesting to see up close and I now have a few new movies on my list of must-sees!

Do I look like a J.Crew ad?

Please tell me that I look like a J.Crew ad today? PLEASE? If only my shirt was a pink & white checked oxford with the sleeves rolled up haphazardly and my hair was a frizzy mess that still looked awesome. A girl can dream, right?

Crispy

Breakdown:
dress, belt, jewelry- thrifted
shoes- Grasshoppers by Keds

The only word I can think of to describe this dress is "crisp".  It reminds me of a 50s housewife, only it has side pockets, top-stitching, and it's short.

Today my professor asked me if I was always going to go to class dressed to the 9s. Of course I told her that I most certainly was! Not to say that I don't have down days, but I am one of those people who feels better when they are dressed. Are you one of those people? Are you one of those people who can't stand those people?

Oh, just my "I WON, I WON" pose. And I didn't win anything.

PS: Elaine posted a fantastic article today on the myths about introverts! Coming from the attitude that I am one, it is pretty darn on point! Read it here.

Rampage

Breakdown:
dress- Target
belt- thrifted
sandals- Dolce Vita
rings- thrifted, gifted and antique engagement ring
ponytail holder- Goody, because I'm klassy like that

I got this dress on a whim about a month ago when I went on a Target rampage. You know, one of those trips where you go in for... let's say shave gel, and walk out with $200 worth of stuff you "forgot" you "needed". Whatever, I fell in love with it the instant I saw it and snatched it up!

I just saw this romper on ModCloth and fell in love with it. And the name of this lovely onesie? Cookin' Cornbread Romper. That's my kind of name.

Guest Posting

I am guest posting at Sarah's blog here today! I talked about "no touch" dresses and awkward bathroom situations. Intrigued? I thought so.

This Outfit Calls for a Picnic and Lemonade

Breakdown:
dress- the market in Piedras Negras, Mexico
sandals- Payless (circa 2006)
rings- gifted & thrifted

I scored this dress at the market the last time I visited Sister #1 in Mexico! Almost every time we go I just have to buy a blouse, sandals, dress, whatever, along with the best goats milk caramel candies known to mankind. I was looking for a dress and this was the most unusual one in the lot! Most of the time there are the big mawmaw shifts and then the kitschy flouncy blouse and scene skirts, but this, this... ahhhh.

And for your viewing pleasure, behold, my bulging shoulder muscles. Brother should be so proud!

Breakdown:
lace duster- Time Warp
tank- Gap
jeans- Levi's
shoes & arm cuff- vintage, Mommed
belt & rings- thrifted

How did my mom wear these wooden platforms at 13? After I put them on I walked into my bathroom and almost busted by booty on the tile floor... not safe.

Pinky Polka

Breakdown:
tank & scarf- Gap
skirt- thrifted and hemmed
flats- Antonio Melani via Dillards
rings- thrifted

First of all, I would like to thank my Mom for hemming and nipping the waste of this skirt when she couldn't sleep last night. Secondly, I would like to thank my closet for being uninspiring last night and keeping me awake trying to put an outfit together. Do any of you ever lose sleep over a momentarily uninspiring closet, or is it just me?

PS: I'm mixing prints today for the first time ever... and I like it.

Twinkies

This is a photo heavy post... don't say I didn't warn you.

Florals day 7 and I'm done! The above dress was rescued from a thrift shop a couple of years ago. I got it intending on taking it apart and making a new dress out of the awesome print. Alas, before Mom and I got around to deciding what it should look like, the below dress was spotted at Time Warp and it was pretty much exactly what I had envisioned for the original dress. So now I have 2 dresses from the same family.

dress #1: America's Thrift
dress #2: Time Warp

My doll pose... you know.

Florals Combo

Behold, days 5 and 6 of florals...

Breakdown:
dress- remade from my cousin's old dress
sandals- BCBG outlet (aka a gold mine)
jewelry- thrifted

This is actually my cousin, Misty's dress from the mid 90s. Because my MawMaw, like my Mom, keeps everything, I get to benefit from her inner hoarder and score some really cute stuff! I don't even remember what the dress looked like before, all I remember is falling in love with the print! It is a gorgeous calico that you just can't find anymore. We kept the pintucks and made it the bodice (lined with my brother's old t-shirt sleeve, mind you) and moved some other fabric to make it a halter. I didn't want to use the fabric or a ribbon as a string, so I just slip in an old necklace instead! I feel like it makes it more borderline grandma but still cool. The back was also too loose (helloooooo nip slip) when Mom "finished" the dress, so we just put a few pleats around the zipper to pull it in tighter.  Simple, comfortable, and the most flattering neckline ever because it shows off my hizott collarbone. If only it was racerback...

I am counting this next outfit as day 6, but I really wore it the 2nd half of day 5. Sue me. Really, don't... I got nothin'.

Breakdown:
tank & belt- Gap
cardigan- Kirra @ PacSun
skirt- cut off thrifted ugliness
sandals- Nine West

This skirt is the most awesome weight of flannel! It was over 90 degrees and I was still cool because it breathes. Excellent.
