Pleats & Pintucks

Breakdown: dress- Time Warp, belt & rings- thrifted, sandals- TJ Maxx

It was 70+ degrees today, y'all. That means bare legs and dresses for me! I found this dress a few months ago at Time Warp and haven't worn it before today. After seeing the cheesy movie, Monte Carlo, I desperately wanted a dress like Leighton Meester wore. I pinned a picture of it and fell more in envy until I found this one! After washing it and another similar dress, ironing the pintucks and pleats was tiring so it hung in my room untouched because I didn't want to wear it and mess it up. I tend to reject my ironed clothes because I don't want to iron them as many times as I would wear them. Do you do leave your must-be-ironed clothes alone just so you don't have to iron them? Tell me I'm not the only crazy one!

Dimensions in Neutrals

Breakdown:
oxford- Target
jeans- Levi's
sweater- Billabong
boots- Timberland

I love mixing different shades of muted colors together. It can be tricky to give dimension to wearing all neutrals, but textures and various fabrics can help make the look less flat. And these colors remind me of a pretty room that Genevieve Gorder would turn into a magical, relaxing place. Not bad, not bad.

PS: Do any of you love Dear Genevieve as much as I do? I'm not a fan of her curtain walls, but I love her ideas for kitchens. I basically drool in every episode. Ha!

With a Little Flair

Breakdown:
coat- thrifted kids coat
oxford- Levi's
sweater- Gap
pants- TJ Maxx ($13)
flats- Jessica Simpson

This outfit feels like the cliche "classic with a twist" with the purple pants and leopard swing coat! I would have normally gone with black or tan pants, which is what I had on at first, but I wanted a little flair. Purple pants give some flair, don't you think?

Roly Poly

Breakdown:
tee- Target
shirt/jacket- vintage, Meta Exchange
jeans- Levi's
boots- can't remember

Getting sprinkled on while taking outfit pictures is just a perk of a blogger's job. As is driving down your street on the way home and seeing Rollie Noelie parked in front of your neighbors' yard! It's Noelie Harmon's pop up shop on wheels! Mom & I freaked out a little because we usually only see it parked in front of the store. Too funny!

-Sarah

PS: If you've never heard Norah Jones's back woods band called The Little Willies, check them out and listen to their song, "Roly Poly". It makes me giggle :)

Stripes & Leather

Breakdown:
vest- Wilson's Leather
tee- Madewell
cords & scarf- Gap
boots- Arturo Chiang

Guys, I have no idea what I'm wearing for all of the festivities tomorrow! I had an idea this morning that involves dotted swiss tights, so I went to Target and found some similar to what I've been looking for, but not quite. I also found some wooly socks that will hopefully keep my toes roasted. Surprisingly enough, the lines at the store were practically nonexistent. Maybe the procrastinators have won this year! I'll keep that in mind next year when I can't find a parking space at the mall. Merry Christmas!

Red & Moto

Breakdown:
sweater- Gap
jeans- Levi's
boots- Arturo Chiang

This is one of those sweaters that I wish I had snagged in every color. Seriously, it is so snuggly and soft! I just read a few of the reviews and most people said to buy a size down. Well, I bought my regular size because I like my winter sweaters a little loose for layering. It also makes it easier to allow for what I like to call "eating room". Let's get real, that's the real reason I buy them large...

Throwing Leaves

Breakdown:
flannel- thrifted
sweatshirt- Eddie Bauer
coat- stolen from brother
leggings- American Eagle
boots- Clarks
purse- vintage Coach, thrifted

My lovely Saturday morning began when my alarm sounded at 5:40 a.m. I was en route to help out with a 5K at the LSU campus by 6:45. In my 30-minute drive and 1 stop at Starbucks, I only hit 1 (ONE) red light. Have mercy! It was bliss! Then I stood outside (freezing) for 2 hours (freezing), 20 minutes of which were spent awkwardly standing in the middle of the road (freezing) in the middle of campus (freezing) telling runners where to turn... all of this while the state troopers were sitting in their cars with the heaters on laughing at me. But a ton of money was raised at the race, so it was worth not being able to feel my hands!

Reminder!!! Don't forget to enter the giveaway for the My Memories Suite!

Now for the leaf throwing.

After wearing nothing but gym clothes, I decided to get dressed today, but kept it at the level of practically pajamas. Logical? Yes.

A Little Pep in m'Step

Breakdown:
sweater- Forever 21
oxford & pants- Gap
boots- Clarks
squinty eyes- c/o sinus pressure

This morning I met my students for next semester and it was a typical Friday at school. Kids banging on drums in the hallway, P.E. happening in the commons, posters flying everywhere, the usual. After meeting tons of people in only a few minutes, names blended together. But at least I know where my 2 classrooms are so I won't get lost on my first day!

On another note, I found this sweater last weekend at F21 as a potential replacement for the mustard sweater I bought a year ago. I'm not quite sure that it will go with everything like my long one, but it's a good one to keep on hand. Also, these boots are so comfortable that I could go for a run in them. My feet seriously feel like they have more "pep" when I wear them. I bounce more and take longer strides. What the heck?

Strange Words

Breakdown:
coat- Wilson's Leather
scarf- Gap (came with a dress)
skirt- Forever 21
flats- Jessica Simpson

All I can say about today is that my mouth has a mind of its own. In a meeting with a graduate advisor at LSU (grad school application process begins...), I used the word "lunatic" within 5 minutes of meeting her, which apparently made me a shoe-in for admission. Hey, I'll take it! Then I wound up at Noelie Harmon and tried on a dress that I described to the girls at the front desk as "a little busty for my pancakes". Word vomit.

On another note, I ordered a sweater from Gap during a Black Friday/Cyber Monday sale and had to return it today. I decided to do it in-store since I was passing right by, but I couldn't exchange and get the same price for it that I paid online.

1) What?
2) WHAT?
3) What can you do about it?

Well, luckily the rude salesman informed me that their sweaters were Buy 1, Get 1 Free. That was a better deal than returning it and getting nothing, so I repurchased my original one in the right size, and snagged this super soft one for free. Sweet deal, right?

From the Boys

Breakdown:
blazer- thrifted Christian Dior
tee & belt- Gap
jeans- Lucky (boyfriend cut)
loafers & rings- thrifted

I had about 3 outfit options this morning, but I changed at the last minute before I left. Do you ever do that? None of my options felt me today. But this, this was perfect. Since my cowl came in last week, I have been dying to wear it! The color is beautiful and only slightly different from mustard and the yarn is so soft. I usually get tired of a scarf after a while because it either gets heavy or itchy, but this one is so light and 100% non-itchy. SO impressed!

PS: Is anyone else excited about the length of my hair? #longhairdontcare

Some days you just want to wear a flowy maxi that you found for dirt cheap, a denim shirt, and hang out on a fence. Know what I mean?

Layered

Breakdown:
cardigan- PacSun
sweater & scarf- Gap
skirt- homemade
tights & boots- too long ago to remember

If you know me in real life, you know that I am a pretty awkward and borderline anti-social person. It's not that I don't enjoy talking to people (sometimes...), but I have yet to master the art of group conversation. How do people learn that skill? Is it something you're just born with, or is there some class I missed out on in 3rd grade where you learned how to talk to more than one person at a time? How do you know when to come in on a conversation? Not too early so it doesn't seem like you're interrupting, but not too late to where your comment is still relevant. So stressful!

To most people, I am "the quiet one" or "Silent Sarah" or something else like that. Until I was about 12, I was very, extremely, hugely in my shell. I have always been an observer. A notice-r, if you will. I would rather watch and listen than actually participate. Sometimes I wonder if that will make me miss out on the things I watch and don't participate in. But I do things at my own pace and no one can make me do them any faster. People have tried and failed, which makes me laugh a little, because they won't learn that I can't be pushed. I won't budge.

-Sarah

PS: I'm sorry about the balcony pictures, but it was just too cold to walk downstairs, past 2 buildings, and near a field. I prefer to feel my fingers!

Downright Catty

Breakdown:
sweater- Gap
skirt- vintage, thrifted
belt- J. Crew outlet
tights- DKNY (I've had them for 5+ years and haven't seen a run yet!)
heels- Liz Claiborne
rings- thrifted/gifted

I feel a little superimposed in these pictures. I promise I was there, in this outfit, and not cut & pasted there. It has been nasty weather the last couple of days, with yesterday being hot and muggy and today the high is 53. Helloooooo coats!

Tomorrow begins my last full week of school!!! Next week I only have 1 final and then I get to move back home for good. No more Sunday night drives back to my apartment when all I really want to do is lay in my bed at home. Starting mid-January I will be student teaching (6th grade English!!!) and the morning bell rings at 7:10... a.m. I will be spending the next month perfecting dirty hair looks and headscarves. If you have any ideas, send them my way!
