Witchy Vibes, Nike Shorts, and Weirdness

 

Today I went to the mall with Brother and one of his friends. Our goal was to find Brother shirts. He got 2. I didn't know it was so difficult for him to find shirts that 1) He likes 2) Fit his swimmer shoulders 3) Fit his swimmer shoulders and his teeny waist. I find shirts that I would buy for him all the time, whatev.

This is the dress I found at Urban last week that made me feel all witchy-vibey and such. I agree with Brother's friend's statement that it is annoying when girls just put on Nike shorts and a tee to go shopping in and don't put something else on. Not to mention that the shorts go *whoosh whoosh* when you walk. Save it for the gym, ladies. Why wear those when you could be wearing an extremely comfortable dress that feels like pajamas?

Speaking of pajamas... Have you seen the pajama jeans infomercial? HAHA! I could not stop laughing the first few times I watched it!

I have had this coat since the 11th grade. That's 6 years, people.

These boots were a Christmas present! I knew about them, but I'm still excited! They are super comfortable and flexible at the ankle. AND they are super tall AND lace up. Score!

My scarf was a Christmas present too. On Dad's last trip to Mexico he stopped at a warehouse looking for an angora mohair scarf because he saw all of the sheep for miles. Anywho, it's super soft and warm!

OR do you think I look like an English school girl minus the brown peacoat? Either way, none of these wannabes were intentional.  I had to take pictures inside today because it is way cold outside! And my poor bare legs! I tried tights, but they looked weird today.

Fact: I am a rebel.

Your eyes are not fooling you. I am breaking a serious fashion rule today. Brown, navy, black, AND grey. Yep, I told you I was a rebel!

I'm not going to lie. I wore this exact outfit to a Christmas party last night. I know, I'm gross.

While I was waiting on my car to get fixed, Mom and I went to Urban and I scored a black scoopneck maxi. It gave me a witchy vibe. The fact that I'm using the phrase "witchy vibe" is a sign that I am stalking Tavi too much.

I used Elaine's twisty belt tutorial to tie my belt. I varied it slightly because my belt was so thick.

I like quilts. Sue me.

Today I wore a quilt on my bottom half. Don't fret, it is a skirt that has just been made into a quilt. I wouldn't wear an actual blanket on my body as clothing... at least not yet.

Mom found this skirt a while back at Goodwill. Or maybe a garage sale. I'm not sure. Either way, it was cheap! We didn't have to hem it or take it in at all. Score!

I went to Time Warp today for their Super Sale! I found a Christmas dress that is borderline cheesy but I don't care, a cute western-ish dress, a pretty lace top, and a velvet skirt.  Everything I bought involves red, lace, or velvet. Oh and I got a REALLY cute hat that I can't wait to wear! It's blue. I also tried on this sick looking white fringe dress that is so Bianca Jagger it's ridiculous and it fit me pretty much perfectly. I tweeted a picture of it to Karen of Where Did U Get That because I knew she would love it. She did. Too bad I didn't have an excuse to buy it!

Inspiration, Hot Glue, and Leopard Galore

I don't have an outfit post today because I spent most of my day hanging out with the cable guy and the Sears delivery men.  BUT I do have something new!  My friend, Heidi (you've seen her before), told me today that she wants to get a pair of blue tights but doesn't know what to wear with them.  This is a problem.  I have electric blue tights and have worn them a few times.  I love them. They make me feel cool. I told her that I usually stick with a black shift, and go with whites and golds.  I always avoid reds with the blue for fear of looking like an American flag.  Don't get me wrong, I love my country, but if I wanted to see the flag on a body, I would just go down to Wal*Mart. I used a Polyvore for visual inspiration!  Hopefully on non outfit post days, or just when I'm feeling inspired and dreamy, I will use Polyvore to dream!  So Heidi and everyone else, here is my inspiration for blue tights!

First, let's talk about the amount of trendy things in this outfit. I realize that there is leather, colored tights, lots of gold, AND animal print.  But I am one of those people that will wear that many things because these things may be trendy, but they're also classic! 

Now let's talk about the classic aspects.  Animal print never goes out.  Leather will last you a lifetime and it is always cool.  Gold accessories are versatile.  But let's face it, at some point, the blue tights will be out but who cares, right?

Lastly, the accessories.  I am a huge fan of stacking bracelets.  I can never seem to keep it down to 1 bracelet.  However, with this outfit, I would keep the bracelets on one arm and the cool twisty ring on the opposite hand.  Also, you do not need a necklace.

Now on to how I spent my Friday night!  About a week ago, Mom and I were on our way home from cleaning my apt and stopped at a garage sale.  As we were approached, I saw this nasty bench and started jumping up and down in excitement!  We scored this beauty for $25.  Here it is before: (disclosure- we had already ripped the seat cover and cushion before I remembered that I wanted to take a picture. Use your imagination)

The seat opens! We think it is an old school bench, but we really aren't sure.

Procedure: rip off nasty plaid and dry-rotted cushion. Use leopard shower curtain (I am not kidding) to cover the seat and back and apply with hot glue.  Fa real. 

I'm in love.

Pssssst!

THIS is Pssssst!

I have tried every reasonable/affordable dry shampoo out there and I am here to tell you that this stuff is... wait for it... life. changing.

You may think that I am being dramatic.  I am not.  After searching for it in drugstores and getting "what the heck?" looks from sales associates, I gave up.  But there it was at Ulta, just sitting there, waiting for me.  Plus, have you ever gone into a drug store and asked "Excuse me, where can I find the Pssssst!?"  I have. Twice.  If you have never done this before, please do it.  It may be the equivalent of my Mom's suggestion to go to a restaurant, order something, and then make notes. Supposedly this leads to excellent wait staff treatment and possible free food.

Anyway, to the details... You can't see it in my hair. It smells good. I mean good good. And no mess like baby powder. Could this get any better? Not really.

I look like a lumberjack today. Mom wanted me to hold Dad's hatchet while we took pictures... would you have liked that?  I said no, obviously.

I spent my day lugging around bags at the mall, visited JC Penney for the first time in years, and people watched in the Apple store when they wer 30 minutes late on my reservation.  All in all, a good first official day of winter break.  And I got all of my Christmas shopping done!

I have to warn you that the shirt I am wearing today is the same one I wore yesterday... I'm gross.  Don't fret, I Febreezed.

Mom and I went to clean my apartment and on the way home stopped by a garage sale.  When I say that these people had incredible things, I mean it!  Besides this coat, I scored what looks like an old school bench.  All we have to do is recover the seat and back and it will be perfect!  I had been looking for a leopard jacket, coat, something for a while and then boom I saw this coat and I had to have it!  A $300 coat for $20?  I'll take it!

I completely didn't mean to match my tights to the lining in the coat either, that just happened all by itself.

Surprisingly enough I have absolutely nothing to say about my day. Except that the crazy lady came into work again today. She comes in every Saturday after her "shock treatment", whatever that means, looks at everything, considers every item, and doesn't buy anything. Lovely.

Now to me!  I wore this last night to yet another Dave Barnes concert in New Orleans.  Trying to figure out what to wear was extremely difficult yesterday.  Jeans? But I don't feel like wearing jeans.  Dress? It's cold. Skirt? It's cold. Tights? Maybe. Shoes? Flat. Coat? Not too heavy since we'll be outside some and inside some. Layers? But I'm not good with layers... I think you get the picture.  Overall, I feel like I looked better in it than these pictures let on.  But maybe that's just my conceit.

And now meet Heidi, you first met her here! This is what she called her "Black Friday Outfit" since she got it on Black Friday and survived the crazy people.

And this is Kristin. We met during sorority recruitment our freshman year.  I only knew 1 other girl going through recruitment (who would later be one of her bffs and my roomdog) so on our dinner break I walked up to the table where she was sitting/eating/playing paper football, and said, "Hey, can I sit here?"  Can I just verify that I had never done that before in my life, seeing as I am socially awkward? So this act was huge. Come to find out, she's cool and likes Dave Barnes too!

The guys again! You can see Austin's outfit better here, which I know he will appreciate.

Two Lips for Tulips

The above photo is what I wore yesterday... only I didn't have time to do a blog post. And I did not want to do 2 separate posts when I only had 1 picture of it anyway! This was my first time trying out the knee socks and boots combo. I think I like it!

Now for today's attire...

This sweater was my Mom's in the 70s. It's old and cheesy and mawmaw-y and I like it! Would anyone else wear a sweater with two kissing turtles on it? And a catchy phrase embroidered on the sleeve? This hat was also Mom's, or maybe MawMaw's, I can't remember. I didn't actually wear the hat to school today, seeing as it wound up in the lower 70s this afternoon. I would have been sweating and had major hat hair! However, if it was in the 40s like it was this morning, I would have donned the hat.
